If you are buying One Single Section:

If you are buying 1 section only then there is no question that you will need a QUANTITY of only ONE transformer. At this point, we will only need to calculate the WATTAGE of the ONE transformer. To calculate your WATTAGE of the transformer, you would simply need to multiply the wattage of the bulb(s) X the amount of bulbs.

Example: If you have a 6 foot section with 4" bulb spacing and 4.8 Watt Bulbs, then you would start by taking the fact that with 4" bulb spacing, you will receive 3 each bulbs per foot (this is determined by the chart below). Therefore, for a 6 foot section, you will receive 18 total bulbs. Now you multiply 18 (total bulbs) X 4.8 (each bulb wattage) which equals 86.4 Total Watts for this 6 foot section with 4.8 watt bulbs spaced at 4" centers. In conclusion, you will need a Transformer that handles at least this wattage, or above. The closest transformer that we carry that comes close to this is our 100 Watt Transformer.

If you are buying More than One Section:

If you are buying more than one section, then we FIRST have to determine the QUANTITY of total transformers you need. The only way to do this would be to know your layout, in other words, are ALL the sections going to operating off ONE transformer or will EACH section need its OWN transformer, etc.? Now obviously, we can NOT provide you this answer since we are not on site. You will have to tell us the QUANTITY based on the location(s), the layout, and as many other details of your job as possible. Once the QUANTITY is determined, the final step would be determining the WATTAGE of EACH transformer. The following example will help you determine this:

If you are buying Multiple Sections and want to operate them on One Transformer:

Example: If you have a 12 foot section with 4" bulb spacing and 4.8 Watt bulbs, and second section that is 8 feet long with the same bulb configuration, then you would start by adding the two lengths together, which would be 20 total feet. Now since the 4" bulb spacing gives you 3 each bulbs per foot (this is determined by the chart below), you would then multiply your 20 total feet by 3 (the amount of bulbs per foot) which equals 60 total bulbs. Finally, simply multiply 60 (total bulbs) by 4.8 (each bulb wattage) and you will get 288 Total Watts. In conclusion, you will need a Transformer that handles at least this wattage or above. The closest transformer that we carry that comes close to this is our 300 Watt Transformer.

If you are buying Multiple Sections and want to operate them on more than ONE Transformer:

Example: If you have a 12 foot section with 6" bulb spacing and 3.84 Watt bulbs, and second section that is 4 feet long with the same bulb configuration that you want to connect to One Transformer, as well as a third section that is 6 feet with a 3" bulb spacing and 3.84 Watt bulbs that you want to connect to a Second Transformer, then you basically use both First and Second Examples. This means for the 12 foot and 4 foot sections, you add the total feet which gives you 16 feet. Since the 6" bulb spacing gives you 2 each bulbs per foot (this is determined by the chart below), you would then multiply your 16 total feet by 2 (the amount of bulbs per foot) which equals 32 total bulbs. Next, you simply multiply 32 (total bulbs) by 3.84 (each bulb wattage) and you will get 122.88 Total Watts. Therefore, you will need a Transformer that handles at least this wattage or above. The closest transformer that we carry that comes close to this is our 150 Watt Transformer. For your third section which is 6 feet long at 3" bulb spacing and 3.84 Watt bulbs that you want to connect to a second transformer, you will first need to determine the amount of bulbs per foot at 3" bulb spacing. For this example, you will receive 4 each bulbs per foot (this is determined by the chart below). Multiplying 6 feet by 4 (the amount of bulbs per foot), you will get 24 Total bulbs. Next, multiply 24 (total bulbs) by 3.84 (each bulb wattage) and you will get 92.16 Total Watts. In conclusion, for this 6 foot section, your second Transformer will need to handle at least this wattage, or above. The closest transformer that we carry that comes close to this is our 100 Watt Transformer.

We hope these examples give you an idea of what we mean by QUANTITY and WATTAGE to help you determine the Transformer(s) that you will need for your project. Please keep in mind, this is only a Guide to figuring out your Create-A-Lite specifications. We do NOT guarantee 100% accuracy with any of these specs and are not responsible for the use or misuse of Create-A-Lite and/or these guidelines.

The below chart displays the availability of cuts and spacing for 12 Volt and 24 Volt.

The 12 Volt Systems can only handle up to 40 bulbs on one run. However, the 24 Volt Systems can handle up to 80 bulbs on one run. The chart below breaks down how many bulbs you will receive by length of run. As an example, with 2" Bulb Spacing, if you order a 1 foot section, you will receive 6 bulbs on that section.
