What is the most popular
Bulb Spacing Used?
Based on annual sales reports, 4 Inch Bulb
Spacing with the 12V Xenon Bulbs is the most popular by far. It is important to understand that bulb
spacing really depends on how much light output you want. Obviously, the more bulbs, the more light you
receive. However, with more bulbs, you limit the length of your runs, you have to use a larger
transformer, you get more heat, you have more bulbs that potentially need replacing, etc. The popularity of the 4 Inch Bulb Spacing
is only based on what is most requested and solid. What you choose should really depend on your
application and we are not recommending any specific spacing for obvious reasons. Again, when we
do run our annual sales reports, we find that 4 Inch Bulb Spacing with the Xenon Bulbs is by far the
largest Create-A-Lite seller. No other spacing or bulb type comes close to it's sales
volume. |

COVE LIGHTING TIPS
Soffit / Cove Distance From
Wall:
 If you have not built your soffit/cove,
the most common built are 4" high by 4" deep (distance out from wall - see image of Section B
below). For this type of Soffit/Cove, 4" Bulb Spacing of your Create-A-Lite is highly Recommended
to decrease the chance of hot spots to your wall. This 4" Depth is also good because it
gives you 4 inches of positioning space allowing you to place your Create-A-Lite closer or further from
the wall allowing you to achieve your personal desired effect. As the depth (distance from wall) of
your cove/soffit decreases, so will the chance of hot spots against your wall. For example: if
the depth (distance from wall) of your soffit/cove is 3" instead of 4", then we
recommend using a 3" Bulb Spacing. (For Cove Lighting, we recommend not using anything less than
3" Bulb Spacing). If your cove/soffit is going to be less than 3" in depth (distance from
wall), there may be a chance of experiencing hot spots (scalloping) regardless of the bulb spacing you
use. Another downfall to a depth (distance from wall) of less than 3" is that it
significantly decreases the amount of positioning space that you have to place your Create-A-Lite
closer or further from the wall.
Soffit / Cove Height
From Ceiling:
The height of Section A (see image below)
really doesn't matter as long as you make that it high enough to hide the Create-A-Lite. We recommend
no less than 2 inches in height for Section A. To decrease the chance of hot spots (also known as
scalloping) to the ceiling, we recommend maintaining a distance of at least 6 inches from the
ceiling to the tip of your Create-A-Lite (shown as Section C in the image above). If you still happen
to experience hot spots, try this tip: Simply rotate your Create-A-Lite so the bulbs are facing the
wall. This normally causes the "reflection / wall wash" effect. This basically causes the
light to wash the wall and reflect back a more even light toward the ceiling. Try it, you have nothing
to lose! Now obviously, this will depend on the color of your walls and ceiling, (for example: a white
wall will reflect better than a dark colored wall). Other factors may also cause this effect to
vary. |

OPTIONAL CHANNEL TIP
The optional channel is great if you want to
create a perfectly straight line but is not requirement for this item. You can use it for cove and
soffit applications though it is not really necessary but again, it makes it easier to create a
straight line. It is however recommended for undercabinet applications and applications where
Create-A-Lite will be mounted against gravity. Again, you can also use other items to mount this like
high quality double sided tape, straps, fasteners, screws or nails, etc. Just be careful not to
puncture the cable. |

BULB ANSWERS
What is the difference between a Xenon
and an Incandescent bulb?
Xenon is a Crisp Bright White Light whereas
Incandescent has a more traditional warmer (yellowish light) output. Xenon is gas filled whereas
Incandescent is filament only. Xenon also gives more light for the electricity used than
Incandescent.
What is the difference between 12 Volt
and 24 Volt?
By using 24 Volt, you will be able to make
longer runs but please also note that Wattage, Lumens and Life Hours vary (see below chart). We cannot
tell you which is most commonly used as both voltages are equally sold. |
